What are you 90lbs? Soaking Wet?
So aikido is fun. A girl from quebec is there, quite advanced, and shes more...well..a stick insect than a person.
You never want to hear a girl say "nope, I'm just not feeling it" followed immediately by "I'm sorry, did I hurt you?" Needless to say my pride took a big hit, I had to outweigh this girl by 80 pounds but she still threw me around like a rag doll.
Its a good learning experiance though, Aikido is all about humility and "lowering your centre". I felt good and lowered on the tuesday night.
On the wednesday, different girl, moderately advanced, tried to remove my shoulder from its socket. I tried to protest, but only a little "aiee" came out, as it hurt pretty bad. She informed me to "tap your leg" when it hurts too bad. Now I know.
See being thrown by a black belt is fun and easy, they lead you exactly where you need to go and your body wants to go there, hence why aikido is so effective: it uses the attackers own force and iniative against them. A beginner is easy too, they don't know what they are doing and normally go about things easily. I myself refuse to even attempt some moves unless its against a black belt, for as sensai says "you can not hurt a black belt". Which is code for "it will be the black belts own fault if you hurt him". I can sure as hell hurt a moderately skilled, and moderately skilled can hurt me. They know enough to do the move, but not well enough to react properly when the beginner ultimately fucks up. Hence my shoulder incident. Had I known how to stop it, trust me I would have.
Aikido and I have a love hate relationship.
Im turning into a bit of a japanophile. I bought a Japanese Car, I take Japanese Martial Arts, and I love Japanese style EDO.
What's worse is that I didn't even realize it.

Le Fin of the Weekend
The funny news: I have no heat. For poker tonight, sweaters and parkas will be mandatory. Inuit Texas hold'em players are encouraged to attend.
The good news: My dad is okay, and hes doing much better. Atleast they let him out of the hospital.
The bad news: My dad is backsliding. He went to the hospital again, and they needed to stop his heart from race (144 for the entire time I was there, just under 5 hours), so they used the paddles on him.
Somehow I have to convince my parents to get a smaller house, sell the big one, and live in a nice little house. I want my dad to start teaching, he has 35 years in the business, he knows his way around a hammer. I want him to finally get a managers position so he can yell at people and ensure quality control. He's good at yelling, it seems like a perfect job for him.
Hes good now, and Im off to go visit him...I will give you guys updates as required.

Back in the Fold
Ahhh University. The land of people who pay money to others to be miserable.
I remembered like it was only yesterday...oh wait, it was yesterday.
Thank you all for visiting, it was a very busy day, and I talked to 90 people (not including anyone I actually knew) which is well above average. I personally gave out dozens of "engineering" CDs, though we probably won't see many of them. Why would anyone choose to run around and get yelled at when they could get paid more to be fat and lazy and work in a cubicle the rest of their meaningless lives.
For me, the choice was obvious. I like being yelled at, I feel more loved.
The free food they gave us was awesome, apparently aramark was NO where NEAR that food they gave us. It was tastey.
I finally got to drive the loser cruiser (mini-van covered with Cdn Forces Sticker thingys) its a beast but handles not too bad.
Over all an exciting day to be sure.

New Week
New Day, same buggery. Went off to supply, showed up 10 minutes early and it wasn't until 1020hr(90 minutes of waiting) that they got to me...I was 8th in line, if you want something today in Supply World, you better have asked for it last week.
More Aikido classes and learning all manner of things. Most of them on how to deal with being thrown to the matt 100 times without being hurt too bad (my knees are thanking me for learning how to fall foward less violently). I'm happy to report I am the dunce of the class. Erin outclasses me entirely already, after only a few classes. I will enjoy being the slow kid, it gives me humility, which "lowers my centre", which apparently makes me more receptive to learning.
This Just In: Im going to Winnipeg!
Only for a week, breathe Carol Breathe! October 17th-October 21st. Its for Aeromedical Training(AMT), which basically means I will learn what it means to be apoxic. Which I hear is a real hoot and a half. Air is entirely over-rated.
This is good news, it means the military has not forgot about me. Ofcourse October is Recruiting's Busy Season. I was the linch pin for three or 4 different events that are happening that week alone. Mcpl Lafrance (gilles) has to cancel 3 CALM lectures and re-schedule, basically a pain in the ass for everyone involved. Sadly AMT is a "career course" and means I will be there, regardless of prior leave arangements or assigned duties. The military term for this is "no acknowledgement required"
Off I go to Base!

Aikido
So Erin and I went off to watch the Aikido.
They start with Swords and moved into some defensive moves. Pretty neat, there were three black belts there, so we got to see what the advanced stuff looks like as well. Swords! so much fun, though how often I'll have access to a nice katana remains to be seen, maybe when Im visiting my highschool friends, they own..um...5 sowrds? Excessive to be sure, but useful should I learn how to use one.
They were teaching them how to lope off your opponents arm so he cant slice your leg afterwards...scary...but fun.
Classes are held 4 times a week, of which I can go to all of them, which would be freaking awesome. This means I will be on Campus a lot, which makes me think I should get a parking pass for the U.
That being said, I wonder if you can actually get a pass if you arn't actually going to school. If I am however, this will eliminate the funds I have for Kinsmen, which means I will start working out at Carol's gym with her brother (also mike). I figure the 4 times a week aikido should more than make up for the fact I won't be able to do declines or standing rows.
If I do get a parking pass at the U, I think I'll also get a bus pass for work, since the LRT goes Right By my work, but I dont know yet. Or I may just bus to and from work and to and from aikido. Who knows.
the Logistics of my planning have yet to be completely ironed out. i never was one for planning.
I must go...um...work...or something.

Vaction Over
I am back from the dead. That is, my week of leave. It was a lovely week of leave as well. With moving and IKEAing and sheperding pukey drunk people about my house, truly awe inspiring.
School has started up, and I am not required to partake. I want to though, for as long as I can really remember, I was going to school (18 years). 4 years is a long time, and I have many memories of Uni and its frolic.
It makes sense to continue school, especially when money isn't a issue (as in it was Free when I attended). I suppose I enjoy being Challenged, and surviving Genet 408 can definately be considered challenging (staying awake during the class being at the forefront).
My job right now, is not challenging. I do work, contrary to popular belief, but I do not have timings or deadlines. I do work when or how I want. As long as its all done by the end of the week, no one cares. Not that I mind being bored, lord knows being bored it has yet to lose its appeal. I'm an inherently Lazy Individual.
Erin had a good idea and I think I will sign up for a Martial Art. Its physically and mentally challenging, and I can learn how to fight off bullies and retain my lunch money. As well, I was thinking of retaking Bronze Cross, and then aquiring my NLS. Will I ever use this? No, but I like knowing I can, and who doesn't want to be a lifegaurd?
My Gyming has been failing lately, its hard to motivate yourself to go just by yourself. Having a Gym Partner is best, going alone isn't half as fun. So if anyone wants to go to the gym 6 times a week, let me know.
So I hope everyone is excited about going back to school. Oh and to that certain someone who isn't actually in school but wants to be, maybe you should get on that.
Nag Nag Nag.
